Week 10 Recap: U16 Girls & U11 Boys Split Print E-mail
Under 16 Girls

The U16 Girls won one and lost one this past weekend, running their record to 9-2 on the season and 5-2 in state league play.

Saturday, the girls dominated the Decatur Raptors by posting a 6-1 win. This is the second time the girls have played this Decatur team. They posted big wins both times, but unusually, the Decatur team was first to score in both games.

Sunday, the Thunder faced a strong Region III team from Huntsville. The game was a defensive struggle. Thunder had several shots on goal but could not convert. Huntsville scored in the second half and hung on to win, 1-0.

The team plays another Region III team this Sunday, BUSA Elite 96. Following that game, the girls will prepare for the State Cup, which begins on November 6.

Under 11 Boys

The Auburn Thunder U11 Boys split a pair of games on Sunday (Oct. 18th) in B'ham to complete league play with a 7-1 record. The 2nd game of the day found the Thunder facing another 7-0 team (BUSA-South Shelby) for the league championship. Despite the fact that the two teams had scored a combined 91 goals in league play, the game was a defensive battle. After a scoreless first half, BUSA scored in the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half on a splendid left-footed shot from 15 yards out. The game remained 1-0 until late in the game when BUSA was able to sneak another one in for a 2-0 win. Auburn did have its chances with 11 corner kicks, but couldn't capitalize on any of them.

In the 1st game of the day, Auburn defeated Vestavia 4-1 on the strength of two goals by Avery Atkins. Auburn's other two goals came off the feet of Noah Culligan (with an assist from Zach Patterson) and Matthew Kisor, who dribbled in from midfield to score the final goal of the day. Sharing goalie duties in the doubleheader Sunday were Carson Dark and Craig Hensarling.

The Thunder will finish the fall season with two tourneys in November (Pensacola, FL and Charlotte, NC), but they have 3 friendly games scheduled prior to the first tourney. Check the Auburn Thunder home page for times and locations.
